Q: How do I set up an appointment?

A: Appointments are made through your doctor’s office. Expect a call to confirm your appointment the day before your exam as a helpful reminder prior to your visit.

Q: How long does the exam last?

A: Most exams last approximately 30 minutes.

Q: What should I do prior to my appointment?

A: You will not need to make any special preparation beforehand and you may eat or drink as usual. If possible, please bring any previous X-rays or scans of the area for our staff to review.

Q: Is there anything I cannot wear during my MRI exam?

A: Because metal objects interfere with the scan, you will want to remove:

  • Buckles
  • Coins
  • Credit Cards
  • Dentures
  • Hearing Aids
  • Jewelry
  • Metal Zippers
  • Partial Plates
  • Watches

We will provide private, secure lockboxes to store any valuables you have on your person at the time of the exam.

Q: I have an internal metal plate from a previous medical procedure- will this interfere with the MRI scan?

A: Yes, which is why we offer CT-Specific applications. Our CAT Scan (CT) is useful for patients with Cardiac Pacemakers, Metallic Fragments in the Eye, Cerebral Aneurysm Clips, Chemotherapy Pumps, Metallic Ear Implants, Magnetic Implants, Mouth Braces, Artificial Heart Valves, Ventricular Shunts, Insulin Pumps, Eye Prosthesis, Shrapnel, or Bullets.

The CAT Scan is also an effective alternative for those suffering from claustrophobia, who would not feel comfortable in the enclosed environment of the MRI scanner.

Q: What actually happens during the MRI or CT exam?

A: Our technologist will position you on a padded exam table which slides into the examination area. The average exam takes only 15 minutes. We will be watching and listening to you during the entire procedure. You will not feel anything during the exam. You will hear different sounds - knocking and whirring - as the system is gathering data. You may select from a wide variety of easy listening music from our Relaxation System™ to listen to during your exam.

Q: Is the exam painful?

A: No. The exam is totally pain-free.

Q: What precautions should I take after the exam?

A: You may relax and resume your normal activities. There are no after-effects.
